The Second International Scientific Conference: “Orthodox Theology and the ‘Ontology’ of Technology: Anthropological, Political, Economic, Social, and Cultural Implications”
الأرشمندريت يعقوب خليل، عميد معهد القديس يوحنا الدمشقي اللاهوتي في البلمند، شارك بصفته متحدثًا في المؤتمر العلمي الدولي الثاني الذي نظمته الكنيسة الأرثوذكسية اليونانية ممثلة بالمجمع المقدس تحت عنوان: «اللاهوت الأرثوذكسي و’أنطولوجيا‘ التكنولوجيا: أبعاد أنثروبولوجية، سياسية، اقتصادية، اجتماعية وثقافية»، والذي عُقد في مدينة تسالونيكي في الفترة ما بين 29 أيلول/سبتمبر – 1 تشرين الأول/أكتوبر 2025.
في مداخلته بعنوان «الطمع أم الاكتفاء الذاتي؟ موقف المسيحيين تجاه التحدي التكنولوجي»، تناول الأرشمندريت يعقوب التمييز اللاهوتي بين التقدم التكنولوجي كأداة لخدمة الإنسان وبين المخاطر الكامنة في إخضاعه لروح الطمع والاستهلاك المفرط. وأكد على قيمة الاكتفاء الذاتي في العهد الجديد والتعليم الآبائي باعتبارها موقفًا أخلاقيًا أساسيًا يحافظ على حرية الإنسان وكرامته في إطار الحضارة التكنولوجية المعاصرة.
وقد شرّف المؤتمرَ بحضوره غبطة البطريرك المسكوني برثلماوس، وغبطة بطريرك بلغاريا دانييل، وغبطة رئيس أساقفة قبرص جاورجيوس، وغبطة رئيس أساقفة أثينا وسائر اليونان إيرونيموس الثاني، وغبطة رئيس أساقفة تيرانا ودورّس وسائر ألبانيا يوحنا، الأمر الذي أبرز الأهمية التي توليها الكنيسة الأرثوذكسية للحوار بين الكنيسة والتحديات التي تطرحها التطورات التكنولوجية المعاصرة.
Archimandrite Prof. Jack Khalil, Dean of the St. John of Damascus Institute of Theology at the University of Balamand, participated as a speaker in the Second International Scientific Conference convened by the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece, entitled “Orthodox Theology and the ‘Ontology’ of Technology: Anthropological, Political, Economic, Social, and Cultural Implications” (29 September – 1 October 2025, Thessaloniki).
In his paper, “Greed or Self-Sufficiency? The Attitude of Christians toward the Technological Challenge,” Archimandrite Jack Khalil examined the theological distinction between technological advancement as an instrument for the service of humanity and the perils inherent in its subordination to a spirit of acquisitiveness and over-consumption. He underscored the Christian ideal of self-sufficiency as a decisive ethical stance that preserves human freedom and dignity within the context of contemporary technological civilization.
The conference was honored by the attendance of His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, His Beatitude Daniil, Patriarch of Bulgaria, His Beatitude George, Archbishop of New Justiniana and All Cyprus, His Beatitude Ieronymos II, Archbishop of Athens and All Greece, and His Beatitude John, Archbishop of Tirana, Durrës, and All Albania, thereby underscoring the pan-Orthodox significance of the dialogue between the Church and the challenges posed by modern technological development.
