 On Tuesday, November 13, 2007, St. John of Damascus Institute of Theology at the University of Balamand welcomed the Very Reverend Iain TorrancePresident of Princeton Theological Seminary located in New Jersey, USA. Dr. Torrance delivered a lecture titled: "Chemists or Terminologists? The Christologic Debate from Apolinaris to Severus of Antioch." In addition to the lecture, the President of Princeton Seminary met with the Faculty of the Institute of Theology at Balamand, and toured the University of Balamand and its faculties, and the Monastery of Balamand. He was very impressed by the high academic standard of the University, its leading role in the service of the Lebanese community, and its valuable Christian witness in the Arab world.
It is noteworthy to mention that Dr. Torrance is the former Moderator of the Church of Scotland. Currently he is the chairman of the World Alliance of Reformed Churches' team for the dialogue with the Orthodox Church.
استقبل معهد القديس يوحنا الدمشقي اللاهوتي في جامعة البلمند الأستاذ القس إيان تورانس رئيس سيمينار برينستون اللاهوتي في نيو جيرزي في الولايات المتحدة الأميركية، والذي ألقى محاضرة على طلاب وأساتذة المعهد بعنوان "كيميائيون أم اصطلاحيون؟ الجدل الخريستولوجي من أبوليناريوس إلى ساويرس الأنطاكي".
وكان لتورانس لقاء مع أساتذة المعهد على مأدبة غذاء قبل أن يقوم بجولة على حرم جامعة البلمند وسائر الكليات. وقد عبر تورانس عن تقديره لما يؤديه هذا الحرم العلمي من دور فاعل في خدمة المجتمع اللبناني والمنطقة، ومن شهادة مسيحية فاعلة في الشرق العربي.
هذا وتجدر الإشارة إلى أن تورانس هو نجل المغفور له اللاهوتي المشيخي المبرز توماس تورانس، وهو منسق سابق لكنيسة اسكتلندا ومتقدم لجنة الاتحاد الدولي للكنائس المصلحة في حوارها مع الكنيسة الأرثوذكسية
